ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Goals of Social Media Content
-
Raise Up Positive Voices: I know we all want to combat those that are saying such horrible things but in general social media is a terrible tool for convincing people who are already convinced and for educating. It is however a great tool for amplifying the right voices and getting regular people to see and here the truth.
-
Give Comfort: to those who are sharing the right messages, each like and comment tells someone they are not alone.
Suggested Guidelines for Safety and Success:
-
Protect Yourself: Be aware of what information you have that’s public.
-
Don't Go to the Extreme: Stay away from extreme posts “phrases like, “kill them all” “from the river to the sea” and anything else that makes light of death potentially puts you in the spotlight of dangerous people.
-
Trust Your Gut: Remember you don’t have to do anything and if you feel uncomfortable you should trust your gut.
-
Prepare: Click on the profile of any unknown poster before you engage. Do the rest of the posts and info share seem like something you want to be a part of.
Strategy:
-
Use Reliable Resources: Consider watching this great introduction from ADL HERE. Passcode: %e.fLu6N
-
Feed the Algorithms with Positive Impact: Our goal is to increase the presence of Pro-Israel voices. Each engagement with a post does that. “likes” increases the volume a little bit, “comments” do it even more, and “shares” have the most impact. The higher “volume” a post gets the more likely the platform is to share it on other people’s feeds.
-
Negativity = BAD: Do not engage with negative posts as those engagements still raise its “volume” even though you are commenting contrary opinions.
-
Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Voices that come from non-Jewish people have the chance of making extra impact as we Jews, are obviously and appropriately biased.

Below are some articles that will help you help your children during these troubling times. One common theme throughout the articles is social media and TV. Please try to limit their use of social media, as much of what they see is unfiltered and very disturbing.
