MESSAGE FROM RABBI FRUITHANDLER

Dear WJC community,
I am going to Israel!
I'm traveling with a group of Conservative Rabbis through the Rabbinical Assembly (RA). I leave Sunday, December 17th and return Thursday, December 21st.  We will hear first hand testimony, meet with colleagues, and hear about ways we can help.  Obviously, I would love to collect and bring a whole plane load of supplies but I am only allowed two bags and I believe I will needs some clothes 🙂  So, I will bring as much as I can. In order to comply with current customs restrictions, I have to purchase donations myself.
There are 3 ways we as the WJC community, can meaningfully and directly contribute to IDF soldiers and displaced families:
1- Send a personal message.
2- Send pictures.
3- Donate directly for requested supplies.
In addition, we will have a box on the security desk where you can drop off any cards or notes for soldiers, as well as notes for the Western Wall. I will make sure they get to where they need to go.  I also have lovely art work created by our students to bring.
On our Stand with Israel page we have numerous other ways to support the people of Israel. There are of course many more opportunities than we have shared.  I hope on this trip I will learn about what kind of help is necessary on the ground.
I also hope to document the trip in real time. Of course, I will also speak about this trip when I get back.
Lastly, at the beginning of this email I thought about taking out that exclamation mark in "I'm going to Israel!"  Certainly, my feelings are more mixed about this trip than any other I have taken before.  I left it in because a part of me can't stop smiling.  It is going to be a morally, spiritually, and physically exhausting trip but it is still going to be in the land of our ancestors and in the State of Israel.  So, I say again, with all of the layers and complexity it entails, I'm going to Israel!
Thank you for your support and I hope to see you this Shabbat.
Kol tuv,
Rabbi Fruithandler

SEND YOUR SUPPORT TO OUR IDF SOLDIERS AND DISPLACED FAMILIES

DONATE DIRECTLY FOR THE PURCHASING OF REQUESTED ITEMS FOR SOLDIERS

I would love to bring everything Israel needs but physical space, and custom rules make this difficult.  In fact, I am not allowed to bring any used donations and it is complicated to bring donations someone else purchased.  We are hearing from Homefront Command that various warm weather gear and Band-Aids are needed.  If you would like to virtually support this mission in that way, please consider giving $18.  I will fill as many bags as I am allowed to bring.  Any funds that go above what I am able to bring I will donate to one of the causes that we hear from on the ground as a gift specifically from Woodbury Jewish Center.  We want people will know we, at WJC, stand by them with more than just our words.
